Jacquemus London at Harvey Nichols by OMA Architecture(UK)

Plaster: Claystone in: custom color

The design of the Jacquemus boutique in London began with the idea of pushing the boundaries of working with a single material. Inspired by the brand’s roots in the south of France, OMA wanted to evoke the essence of Jacquemus’ native Provence through the materiality of the spaces. Instead of designing the form and then choosing the materials, the materials were chosen from the outset and determined the shape of the space throughout the design process.
At Harvey Nichols, the shop is covered in our clay-based plaster, Claystone, inspired by the traditional materials found in Provençal houses. The material is made from natural components and applied by hand, giving the design a sense of authenticity and craftsmanship. Like the ‘sculpted interiors’ of French artist Valentine Schlegel (1925-2021), the architectural elements integrate seamlessly with the furniture to form a continuous space, making the boutique more than just a place to shop – it’s a place to call home.
Jacquemus and the architects at OMA were so pleased with the Claystone product that they decided to apply the Claystone coating in their Copenhagen and Zurich boutiques, as well as over 2,500 m² in their Paris headquarters.
